lg dvd burner will not read dvd

I got "call of duty4" for christmas and my new dvd burner will not read the disk?? I tried everything. I updated to the new firmware and it read the disk and installed it but before that and now after it will not read that disk. i got it all in stalled and then went to play it and it will not read it again!
any suggestions?

 

I know this isn't very helpful info, but I've heard about LOTS of problems with COD4 ranging from installation problems, to mid-game crashes, to lock up upon launching the game, and all things in between. If the DVD drive is brand new, go ahead and return it for another one; it can't hurt.... if the problem persists even with a new drive, maybe the disk is faulty. Try it on a friends PC to see if the same happens before you decide to return the drive. If the same thing happnes ona adifferent PC, then we know it's a fualty game disc.

 

yeah like an idiot i thought my first dvd drive was bad so I bought this one. same thing happens. it is the new lg 20x dvd lightscribe model gsa-h55l.
the disc pops right up on our lame laptop.

 

So the game works fine on the laptop, but not the tower, even with two different DVD drives... this tells me that something is wrong with Windows, or the motherboard. Maybe try a different data cable on the DVD drive; try reloading the chipset drivers. Run a diagnostic on your RAM and maybe the hard drive too. Does the DVD drive play DVD movies? Does it read other data DVD's?

 

Yes it reads dvd movies and plays them. it also burns music to a disc. seems like just that one dvd does not work on it.
