  1. Please tell me of your experiences with these programs, especially if you have had both. I want to know if the program is prone to giving unexpected usability issues. I am most interested in knowing about the ease and effectiveness of using the platform to update programs.

Would it be worthwhile to have both of them?

I use neither. I don't feel either is needed.
I use IrfanView portable, VLC portable, and LibreOffice portable on the computer I'm currently typing this on. To launch, I open the folder of the program and click on the exe. I have other portable programs archived on a USB stick. I do the same thing to launch them: open the folder and click the exe.

Have used Liberkey and good for updating, especially for people not used to updating. Only problem found was programs wouldn't play nice if they were already installed. Never used the Launcher.

  4. I would suppose what you've got to do with such programs is use the installed version to transfer your settings to the portable version and then uninstall the previous version.

No, that may not work, as some of the files in your installed program may be incorporated into Windows itself, and if you then delete the program, the portable program will be sent to look for non-existent files, and so may call an error. This all depends on what you are trying to achieve, and what programs you are using.
Best to delete the installed program first and then set up associations for your portable program.
As an aside, you can add your own portable programs to Liberkey, they just won't update if they are not supported.
