License Crawlers

Are License Crawler Apps legal, SAFE and legit?

I got curious because I have seen computers where the Certificate of Authenticity sticker is either missing or all beat up and the numbers are not intact. If one has to take a computer to a shop to have Windows reinstalled, they will NEED the original COA sticker, right? Well, or at least the number, right? Or not? Does it have to be the sticker or will the number do?

Is this a good one? Or are there any better ones that are FREE?

 

Programs that find product keys are perfectly legal. The key is tied to one particular copy of a program. But, any software that finds activation keys would be illegal.

The number on the sticker is what's needed. As you noted, stickers fade. And some do mysteriously peel themselves off.

LicenseCrawler has annoying nag screens.

On Windows 8 or later though there's no sticker with numbers and a license crawler isn't needed because the OEM Product Key is embedded in the UEFI. The OEM Key activates once you connect to the internet.
