Someone pointed this out on another forum a few months ago, but it was made with cheese inside rather than sausage. We all made our own varieties of it (mine had cheese, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and green pepper) and by all reports they were quite fabulous. :-D

On a similar note, why not go to the Heart Attack Grill instead, at least you'll see some pretty angels while you're waiting for the ambulance, if you're lucky.;):-D I mean how much pot does one have to smoke to polish off a quad burger? Ooh wait, I wanted half a lb of bacon in there too. rolleyes Gluttony gone rampant, what are we? A bunch of emotional kids with no reasoning ability? Anyways, the Darwinism effect will come into play.;)

I thought I was doing a good thing Dan being a bacon fan but with high cholesterol by buying turkey bacon, after all they serve it in the hospitals rolleyes, anyway heard it's worse the the real deal. The health/food expert, (thats expert for this decade) said to make turkey like pork it has soo much more salt and nitrates.

Well, being an amateur sausage maker and wannabe bacon maker, I know that there are federal limits on nitrites and nitrates. This is poison in the right dose. As you can see from the quote, it doesn't take very take much. Salt is another issue, there is always too much in any processed food that I've ever eaten.:puke

Cures are a botulism killer. Quote taken from The Sausage Maker

Is it even available to anyone outside the culinary circles?

Do you mean the cures or the raw molecules themselves? I don't think that pure nitrites/nitrates are available from your local corner pharmacy. Heck, I have a triple beam laboratory grade scale and I wouldn't ever dream of scaling off this stuff, it's cheap enough as it is!

I bought a pound of cure #1 with the salt carrier some 15 years ago and I believe I still have some 8 oz. or more left after doing some 20 lbs. of sausages per year. Same goes for the liquid hickory smoke, 500ml's will last long enough for my grand kidlets and way beyond. I hope this answers your question.

Mmmm... nothing tastes quite the same as real bacon, not that nasty store stuff. This would be so delicious. I'll have to try that sometime.

I'm not really a fan of bacon, but I do eat a lot of bratwurst and the like. I like ham a lot too, but we don't do a finished ham.
