Like Puzzles? Whats wrong with this new build?????

Hello Geeks Ville,

I just finished a new build:
Athalon 64 3000+ Winchester
MSI 6600GT
VNF4 Ultra socket 939 mother board
450 watt ps 3.3v=28A +5=50A +12=18A w/20-24 pin adaptor....
4x 256 mb Corsair DDR 400 (3200) = 1GB
120GB 7200/8MB
Realtek analog 7.1 onboard sound
1 Lite-on DVD burner
1 Lite-on DVD drive
1 19" Specter LCD monitor ( I am using dvi cable only)
WIN 2k

Here the scoop, it works great but...locks up(with a repeating sound) when playing any 1st person shooter type game(RTCW,HL2,Q3). All drivers are newest ones, Direct X 9c, all windows updates.

I thought it was the.....
- memory, so I took out 512, still locks up.
- sound, so I disabled it in the bios and it still locks up
-power, so I disconnected the DVD drives and still locks up
-drivers/direct X, I have uninstalled and then re-installed sound/video/direct x 10 times but still locks up....
-cpu temp was 30 deg C

Is there something else I can try? Or is a component in the build causing problems. Surfs and runs Sims 2 fine.....

try out another graphics card if u can

 

yo mate
work backwards take everything off of your mobo CD roms cards etc... just leave in memory and gra card then do some gaming and see if you still have the same prob

 

you mentioned you have the latest drivers ... but maybe you forgot the mbs drivers?

maybe try one memory stick at a time in different slots ... also try loosening the timings to 3-4-4-8

 

Thank for the advice geeks, I will give it a shot... do you think it could have anything to do with the 20-24 pin power conector converter? I think there is plenty of juice on the PS to handle it... but i am not sure... I will let you know how it goes.... here is a couple of Arthur Guinnes's Finest for ya!

hey thanks i figured it out.. well kinda i just slicked the harddrive and reloaded everything... i must have had a conflict somewhere causing problems.....
