I just got this computer and downloaded limewire but it is not connecting. i made an exception for it on my firewall but it is still not working. Do you have any ideas on how to make it connect? :banghead

Perhaps you needed to restart the computer to get it to work. Be warned though, Limewire gives you the opportunity to obtain media illegally and people are being gone after for this sort of thing a lot more now. If all you are sending and receiving are privately owned files, such as the song you and your friends wrote or the video clip from your last party, I think you're okay. But grab the latest hit from your favourite world-renowned band, and you and people you got it from can be in major trouble and up for big bucks.

The odds of being caught up/downloading copyrighted material are slightly less than those of being struck by lightning. But still, be careful.

Yeah, but people have been unlucky lately...

Also, when one of my kids first put it on our computers, I didn't know about what it was and he was too young to understand there were such things as copyright laws. We got a few emails from our ISP about such matters which put me wise. They were couched in general "this is one of our send-it-to-everyone" emails but the last one came after I'd got wise and said "get rid of it" and thought it had been. (Absolutely necessary - we have a kid who comes here who you have to watch like a hawk or he drifts quietly to your computer and starts downloading like crazy, causing limit loss... keyboards are locked now but there is the occasional accident...) This last one was after I discovered that one of our machines still had a link on it to Limewire and I was surprised because the icon was still Limewire which if Limewire was gone, it shouldn't be. Bit dumb of me what I did next; clicked the link, Limewire started up and asked for access to the internet, me in my dumb stunned mullet reaction said "yes." Killed it instantly but I reckon it triggered a port notification at the ISP because we got a rather nasty "we-sent-this-to-everyone" email within a day or so. (For those not understanding the port notification, different stuff goes through different ports - think of them as doors with numbers on - internet through door 80, emails through door 25, Limewire through door 8115 or whatever. All the ISP needs to do is set a program running that sends emails to people using the Limewire door and notifies them if the person keeps using it.)

So don't be too complacent about being one in a million people - your ISP might be happy to report you in to protect themselves or cancel your account...
