Oh crystal ball.....do I see another candidate for the malware section?

Scan everything that you download with an anti-virus program before installing or opening.

well i mostly just use mine for musc, but no it's not safe, it has quit alot of spyware that comes with it, but it should be easily removed or blocked with a good blocker and a good spyware remover.

NO.....using limewire as client software to enable file sharing is never completely safe!

Malicious coders can easily add their evil ways to any torrent file, and if your not careful, you can end up seriously ill! (at least your pute will!)

As others have stated, its not only important to scan any downloaded file before opening, but it also helps if you understand the technical protocols of
P2P file sharing applications before venturing into the unknown.

Its illegal in OZ though, and because im an honest citizen, i can advise no more!

IMHO the best way to use Limewire (LW) if you are set on using it is to have a separate low spec pc more of less just for that purpose and with NOTHING of any value or importance on the HDD.

I have allowed my children to use LW on that basis. I have also copied the partition prior to them installing LW on it so if there is any kind of corruption then deleting and replacing with the saved partition is no big job.

My other advise would be to go into the LW control panel and uncheck the manner in which it allows for 'connection'. By that I mean that in the first instance LW loads when you boot PC and will immediately go online to meet user requests.

The downside of allowing LW unchecked is that your bandwith can be chocked with uploads from your machine. I have set the download requests from users to 1 I think which is the lowest (can't remember exactly) and equally set the upload at lowest level too.

If you go into the LW's control panel and run through all the options you will see what I mean.

And in my personal opinion, the probability that you will get something or other on your pc will increase by a factor of 10, so make sure you have read up on and downloaded all relevant repair programs now in case you are not able to get onto the net later.

    Good Luck
