I installed and bought Limewire Pro, but I noticed that my computer slows down quite a bit when I am using it.Is there something that I'm missing? or are there any viruses or anything like that getting through? thanks!

Please post your specs... Limewire runs non-stop in the background, and uses a lot of resources.

My computer is running at 512 mb of memory I have a 3.0 ghz Pentium 4 processor.I know I should upgrade the memory I believe I can go up to 4 gigs of memory on this computer it is a Gateway model # (AK) PB1 E-4500D.

That's your problem. 512MB is barely enough to run Windows XP. If you want to keep running Limewire you need to upgrade that. Your CPU is fine.

If I upgrade the memory, then what about the Limewire? I've heard a lot of horror stories about it.I was thinking of switching to Opera for the browser, and then maybe installing Shareaza, but I'm just not sure which direction to go in.Thanks for your help!!

Frankly, any P2P program is going to give you a major headache. If you are worried about performance and want to aviod malware, you are better off avoiding them all together.

    Hello There,

If you don't like limewire you can download a program called limeshare pro it is the same as limewire pro version but its faster and don't clog your computer as limewire does.

Ones to avoid are bearshare and kazaa as they get viruses through and kazaa has its own virus protector but it slows the computer right down.

and also suggest to you is upgrade your memory from 512mb to atleast 1-2GB ram that will give you extra for your programs to run.

    Hope this helps

The 3rd time I used Limewire, it made me decide to not use it anymore as I always pick up severaral viruses in the process. For my music or video download, I use the slow but safer you tube downloader.
