Limit PC's Internet Speed

Ive got a wireless network in my place covering four PC's. 2 Desktops and 2 Laps, all win xp sp2.

My mate is a bit of a torrent freak and spends all day downloading gigs of stuff.
Problem being, not only does this slow down my connection for when i want to do a simple bit of surfing, but also I have a gb allowance for peak times, once used speed is restriced.

I'm pretty sure there is some software out there that can let me limit his bandwith and downloads during certain times and give me overall control of the bandwith. Can anyone advise on the best ones?

The best thing to use on a multi-PC network is a router. I do torrents and nobody else suffers from what I do.

Google DGL4300

It is a dlink router. Don't let the name fool you. It works great with P2P, VoIP, or any time critical application that uses the internet.

 

Sorry GCL, buts that not the case. If your torrenting at max speeds and using all the upload speed this will slow the connection for the rest of the house/connection users. Because even simple browsing requires traffic both ways, ie an acknowledgement of of recieving sent data from a webserver. As far as the original posters problem. Most bittorrent programs have a scheduleing feature which would help with the limit for the peak times. A big suggestion of mine is don't just randomly start limiting his connection as they will just then find ways around your monitoring/limits. Best bet is to talk with them, explain you could very well loose the internet service and that your having issues with speeds and such, i assume your paying for the connection. Good Luck.
