I am in the middle of re-installing Win XP home for my grandma. I want to prevent anyone to install anything on her pc. My cousins go over there and install things. I need to load stuff right away, and maybe down the road, but when she hits the power button, and boots up into windows, I don't want anything to be able to get installed! How do I do this? I will wait to go through the setup till I know, Thanks....Bryan

A grandma using PC. Now that is cool.
Perhaps you should have the admin user profile locked with a password only you would remember, give your cousins a second profile and let them play, surf, anything but instal programmes. That is quite a simple sollution. I bet the other guys can suggest a restrictive utillity or something.

You want her to have access ....but she doesn't have a passworded account, so the kids just get on and download stuff .....

If they are fairly computer literate ....they would poss. know if you go to internet explorer / tools / internet options / security / customize(?) and scroll down to the box for downloads ...un-enable it.
Pop up will come up when they try to download saying they don't have permission.
If they use cd's to install ....open the case an pull the plug on the cd drive ...

been messing around tonight. With her account set to limited, I can download all the programs I want, and start the install process, As soon as the installer tries to write to the disk, it says "ha ha you ain't got permission from Bryan" (not really, but you get the point)
So.......I believe that I got it working......I did password protect it, but Granny leaves pc on mostly anyways.
    Thanks for the help, Bryan
