I tried to play a cassette on my pc using a line in from cassette player to computer. I cannot hear the sound. I am using Windows 7 and the advisor from the store where I purchased it said apparently the window 7 instillation needs to be repaired. Is this something I can do and if so where would I get the discs??? The store advisor to bring it in and they can do a repair on the windows7 program. It would be simpler for me to do it if it is feasable instead of dimanteling the complete computer. Please advise..

    Thank you,

    Wadda

Do you have Windows Media Player or some other media player open when you try to do this? Do you have a headset you can connect to the cassette player to confirm it is producing sound from the phones jack, which I presume is the port you'd use for either a headset or the line you are connecting to your computer?

Check the volume properties to make sure line isn't muted.

I am using Nero Platinum 12. Windows 7 Media player is not open. I am going to check the line out right now. Thank you for your response.

I checked them. Some of my speakers are not working but the technician said that he believes some of the files in windows 7 are corrupted and that I should do a repair on the Windows7.

    thanks,

IF you get any sort of audio, i wouldn't say that win7 is damaged btw.

Can you post a picture of how you have the cassette player connected to your computer? Also a picture of the cable without it plugged in, showing both ends. If I had to guess, you have a mono cord, not a stereo cord connected to your cassette player.

As for this "advisor", it wasn't a Geek Squad idiot at Best Buy per chance.

I have the linein cord, one end in the earphone jack on the cassette player. The other end in back of computer in the blue spot. I actually tried all the jacks. I just had the cassette playing over the speakers but it would not digitalize to the computer. Now I did this before with no problem so I don't know what could be wrong? They now want me to truck the CPU into the store for them to repair the windows7 version. My only problem now is: I am 72 and lugging it back and forth is a problem. I can only depend on my son to come over to lug it for me and then lug it back. Last time I did it, it was there some time. I find if I can try some things that are suggested to here, I am better off because I usually can get things fixed and worked. So I do thank you for taking the time a patience with me. I forgot to add I am using Nero 12 Platinum. I purchased the upgrade thinking I could correct this.

Doubt that it has anything to do with the computer or Nero. Again, can you post a picture of the cord that you have? What exactly are you trying to accomplish with playing the cassettes through the computer? Are you trying to record them as a digital file, so they can be burnt to CD's, or just wanting to save as a mp3?

If you have a RCA to Stereo cord like this http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...d=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=665&seq=1&format=2 make sure that you are connecting the Red & White to Line Out on the Cassette deck, and the 1/8" to the Line In (Blue) on the back of the computer. Keep in mind that some Line in jacks are not stereo, but mono.

You can use http://www.pssl.com/Behringer-UCA-202-2-IO-USB-Audio-Interface or http://www.pssl.com/Behringer-UCA222-USB-Audio-Interface instead of the sound interface jack on your computer. If you post your location in your profile, someone that lives close to you may be able to help you do this.

It is a single 1/8 line in on both ends. I purchased it at BestBuy. It is not a stereo cord.
What I want to do is copy the cassettes to my computer to listen to as some of them are breaking on me now they are so old.

Thank you for your kind and informative advise.

If it is not a Stereo cord, that is why you are only getting one channel of sound. The cord should look like the 1/8" plug in on the first link i posted, that has the 1/8" stereo male to RCA ends. You can get the cord cheaper at monoprice.com vs. paying the mafia fees at Worstbuy.

A stereo plug will have two rings with three silver sections, a mono cord will have one ring with two silver sections.

Thank you, I took your advice and ordered a cord. I'll update you when it comes in. I appreciate your patience with me.
