    hello there.
just last night my pc started doing this and is still doing it now. When i click on a link or right click - open in new window nothing happens except the page freezes for about a minute and then returns to normal without the link opening.

I've done a couple of scans and things but i'm not sure it is a virus.

tried running something to do with dll files from the microsoft forum but that has not helped.

    Any help gratefully welcomed

You need to post a little more info: what browser and version, what OS, ECT.

i've tried to use the IEFix but it prompts me for IEXPLORE.EXE on CD or the path on my pc. i dont have a CD and i dont know the path. i pressed cancel and it said it completed the fix anyway so i restarted my pc but it still isn't working.
I hope this makes some sense.

Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options > Programs and
click on Reset Web Settings. Try it now.

IE >Tools > Options > Advanced tab > uncheck reuse window if it is checked. See if that helps.

Have you added anything to internet explorer recently? This can happen with Yahoo Companion.

i did uncheck it but it seems to have made no difference

No i havent been near yahoo so that is not it. it started only yesterday and i haven't added anything recently.

Ok. I would go back and recheck it like it was.

You might try reregistering those files in the MS link and see if it works now. I might be missing something here, hopefully there will be some other ideas.

Sorry Steve, just to jump in here for one thing, Alexa is included with Internet Explorer and can be safetly removed. (yes it is tracking spyware and should be treated as such)

hello there. well i tried the scan thing on that ms site and every few seconds it kept prompting me to insert the xp sp1 disc which i dont have cos my machine came with it on. These messages were were something to do with needing to copy dll files to the cache if that helps. anyway the scan eventually finished and it had no effect. The only other thing on the microsoft site seems to be to reinstall everything by the looks eeeeek. i only want links to open
