So I bought this router today and can't for the life of me get it to work. I've tried every sort of reset method I could find, I've tried setting it up from the disc, setting it up manually, but nothing. When I put 192.168.1.1 in my browser to get to the setup page it sits there for about a minute then eventually gives up. My current router is a crappy Dynex, but I had no issues with the setup. It's IP address is 192.168.0.1. When I check ipconfig with the Dynex I get...

    IP Address: 192.168.0.100
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

    With the Linksys I get...

    IP Address: 192.168.1.100
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Leading me to believe my computer is picking up the router... So I don't know the issue. My IP and DNS are set to obtain automatically. I wouldn't know what to put there otherwise. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with all the latest updates. I'm just stumped as to what I should do.

Type 192.168.1.1 in your browser. That will get you there.
(Default gateways can be different for different manufacturers.)

Tried that, didn't work. Sat there for a bit and then didn't connect to the page.

    Sorry, misread your post.
Have you reset to factory defaults and started over?

Yep. Don't think that's the issue.

Have you tried removing the Linksys program by Add/Remove Programs and then reinstalling?

    It didn't install anything.

    Here's a troubleshooting option from Linksys -
    Troubleshooting Tree

    1. Check for valid IP address (e.g. 192.168.100).
    2. Include http:// before the number (e.g. http://192.168.1.1).
    3. Disable any firewall & proxy that are enabled. Clear cache.
    4. Disable any 3rd party filtering software like pop-up blocker, ad ware, spy ware & anti-spy ware (Microsoft beta anti-spy ware).
    5. PING the router, it should have 4 replies.
    6. Power cycle the router. If still won’t work try this option below:
    7. Change the advance settings of Internet Options. HOW TO:

o Go to Internet Options properties>>select Security tab>>click Custom Level

o Under Settings click or scroll down at the very bottom

o Under User Authentication>>select the radio button that says "login with current username and password" then hit OK to save the settings.

    1. Try other PC of those solutions above failed.
    2. Hard reset the router if two computers both unable to access the router.
    3. If hard reset won’t fix it, re-flashed or upgrade the firmware.
    4. RMA the router if all solutions failed. No need to escalate the call to 2nd level.

You've done some of these. Try this in sequence.

Still nothing. I think I'll just take it back and try another brand.

That's kind of unusual. I've had good luck with Linksys.
You might want to see if anyone else has any ideas before you take it back.
I'm not any type of expert on these.
By the way, welcome to MGs.:)
