linksys router and comcast issues

hello
first time post, thanks for helping

i have had an old comcast connection and linksys wireless router, operating a year or two ago. i just set up new comcast service (different modem), trying to setup the old linksys wrt54g v1.1. but unable to connect to internet when router is installed.
I have updated to latest linksys firmware, set 192.168.1.1 to clone mac address, even tried linksys tech support but to no help. uninstalled newer antivirus software thinking it may be blocking the router for some reason, still no change.
i have run out of ideas.
any help would be great

I too have a linksys router and comcast service and when I first hooked it up I couldn't connect. I went through linksys support also to no avail. I finaly had to call 1-800-COMCAST and they reset the modem to recognise my router. After that I've had no trouble connecting. I hope that helps but if it dosen't I'm sure someone else will have a better suggestion. Good luck and welcome to MajorGeeks.

i called comcast and all they wre able to do for me at this time was tell me to use the reset button on theback of the modem(not just to unplyug, due to battery backup). but that still did not work.
any other thoughts??
