Linksys Router and VPN

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 router, DSL connection with two computers connected. I use one of the computers to connect to my office via VPN/IPSec/UDP. For seven months, this setup worked like a charm. Then about a week ago, I lost internet connection. I used my laptop to connect directly to the modem and everything worked fine. Connected back to my router, reset it and reconfigured it. Since then, whenever I am connected to my office via VPN, our internet connection creeeeeeeps. Another oddity, is that now when you click on an internet link, it does not execute right away... in fact, sometimes it takes several clicks to get it to work... almost like it has not finished loading or something? This issue also exists when my computer is not connected VPN, though not as bad. This is driving us crazy and three attempts to get Linksys support to help have failed... I am no expert by any means, but I think I know more than they do. Can anyone help??????? Desparate in Alabama.

 

Have you checked for the possibility of spyware or viruses?

Yeah, that was one of my first thoughts... scanned my system and there really wasn't anything serious. I'm just at a loss. I know it has to be something about how I had the router configured, but I have been through all of the settings and everything looks okay. I will be moving my desk to a new area of my house in a couple of weeks, and that will rule out a possible cable problem because we have run all new cables to the new location. If my problem persists after that, guess I'll just have to find a way to live with it. It's just really frustrating when I know it can work right!!! Thanks for your input!
