Linksys Router Stopped Working

I have a Linksys WRT54GS. It just stopped working today. I have one desktop connect via a wire and a laptop that connects wirelessly. The desktop will connect to the internet just fine if I connect it directly to the cable modem. The router boots up, has all the appropriate lights lit and flashing. Both the desktop and laptop say they are connected, but I can get nothing in IE and a ping test fails. I've tried powering down/up multiple times with power down times over 2 hours. I've also reset everything on the router to the factory defaults.

Is it time to throw this sucker away like I did my last two Linksys routers?

Mine gave out on my 1 year ago or so. However, I went back to Linksys with my next router only to have overheating issues. IMO, go with Netgear or Belkin because people are buying Linksys because of the Cisco name and the product isn't as good as it should be.

 

Thanks for the reply locksmith, but the problem is with both the wireless connection as well as the wired connection (desktop wired into one of the 4 router ports). Desktop works fine when connected directly to the modem, but won't connect at all when going through the router. Any other ideas? I'm willing to try anything. I've been through 3 Linksys routers in the last 5 years. Never played soccer with any of them. They sit in one spot and never get disturbed in any way.

Hi bonaam,

these home Linksys routers are notorious for stopping data traffic. After my third one, I bought a Dlink dir-615 and have had no troubles for the last 2 + years.
