    Hey,

I'm in a bit of a predicament! But, I've heard great things about this Forum and it's members so thought I'd post and see if you could help....

I have been rejuvinating my GF's laptop (formatted the HDD and re-installed windows XP Home etc) I also installed AVG (AV) and ZONEALARM (FW) then a Linksys WPC5RGv7 PCMIA card so that she could operate wirelessly. I installed SP2 and all other current updates.

I was having trouble with the wireless card and established that it was AVG that was causing the issue...( i think), so tried Avast - no better. So i tried Norton 2005 (from google downloads) but then couldn't get the thing to boot up properly.

i tried to uninstall norton in safe mode but it wouldn't let me, so tried to uninstall teh linksys software but no improvement, so did a system restore to an earlier point, again no joy. So i tried to "startup at the last known good configuration" and still no joy.

I thought it might be a graphcs driver issue as the screen would blank out before the MS sig tune, so in safe mode installed all the latest drivers for the GC and it seemed sorted. That is except for the fact that the Linksys software won't work, uninstall or re-install due to ...

" An instalation support file could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified" when ever i try to uninstal.

i am at a loss now and so really need a hand....

i think that once i have uninstalled the wireless software and then re-installed it properly the issue will be resolved as i am pretty sure that the issue stemmed from the graphics drivers.

if you can help me i'd really appreciate it.

    thanks

    Andrew

    Hi

With that error on uninstall and I take it your uninstalling from Add/Remove and the entry for the software is not going?

Then its possible the uninstaller entry is still stuck in the registry preventing you from re-installing even though its possible all the Linksys files are gone and its just that entry left, to remove it you will need to delete that entry, easy way is to install http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html the once run click Tools > Uninstall and find the linksys entry and Delete Entry

Then it maybe worth using CCleaners, Cleaner and Issues menus to clean up any left over installer files and unused registry entries.

    Then try installing again.
