Linksys Wireless Lag????

Hi All,

First let me say....I LOVE THIS SITE!

I'm fairly good on the computer and this site has helped me several times with some issues but as far as gaming and wireless routers/game adaptors, I am a NOOB!

Here's the deal if anyone can help me and I've read through the threads and don't really see my specific issue.

My 14 year old plays X-Box live. I bought him a Linksys Wireless G (WRT54G) router and game adaptor (WGA54G). Never mind the fact that it will, for no apparant reason, change the settings and has to be reconfigured, he says it lags big time!!! I thought maybe because it's in his room and too far from the router....I guess about 20 feet. So I moved it into the den which is only about 5 feet from the computer and it's still lagging big time. He plays every game under the sun so I don't think it's a game issue (if that's even possible).

Anyone have any ideas? Is there a better wireless system out there for this specific purpose since that's all it's used for? My son says that I should get the Microsoft wireless router that he says was designed for X-Box. I really don't have the first clue so any help/advise/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Oh, I'm running Windows XP/SP2, Pentium 4. 2.60GHz, 247MB RAM and 80% of my system is free. Don't know if that helps but thought I'd include.
