Just bought a used Linsys Wirless-G Broadband router and tried to replace my SMC EZ switch 10/100 with it so I could use my laptop on the wirless system. I followed the instructions with the following exception: I have an ooma phone modem between my internet modem and my router. The system works fine the way it is and I was hoping I could just plug into my existing system with the Linsys, but it will not bring up the internet on the two towers I have going to the router. The installation cd directs you to connect to the internet modem, I connect to the ooma instead. Why won't this work? Does anyone have an alternative way I can hook this up?

OK... maybe dumb question here, but why 2 modems? I'll check in in the morning when I get home and hopefully be able to offer some advise.... otherwise I'd just say remove the phone modem, but that's why I ask first.

The Ooma modem is for free telephone service anywhere in the continetal United States, it goes between your internet modem and your router. It recieves phone service without interfering with your internet service. However, if the ooma goes down, you have to reboot it to get service to your computers. I've had excellent results with the system the way it is set up but I want to use the internet with my laptop from either the livingroom, kitchen, or whatever room I'm in. The SMC 10/100 router works fine with my two towers, but when I attatch the Lynsys to the system the way it is it will not give internet service to either tower.

Just hooked the system directly from my internet modem to the Linksys and still didn't get any signal to my tower (hooked up 1 directly). I contacted the person I bought it from, I believe it's defective, doesn't work even if I follow the cd software instructions to the letter. I guess I'd better quit being cheap and buy a new one.

OK... I see... that's what I get for checking when I don't ahve time to research... kind of like a Vonage thing. Well... it does sound like you may need a new router.... if you are comfortable with the higher end, linksys is a great router IMHO, it's all I'll ever own. My dad has a bit less experience and he uses a Belkin and loves it, more for the general masses type of interface for settings and such.

    Good luck!!
