Linksys WPC11 v4 problem

I am having a problem with a new Linksys WPC11 V4. card and WindowsME. Linksys can't help. They told me they can't make the card work with WindowsME. This was after many emails and hours on the phone with Linksys.

My problem is when I follow the install instructions, the installation goes as it is supposed to but then I get "Error 10038 Socket on Non-Socket". At that point I cannot access either the internet or my home network.

I have been accessing the internet and my home network for years using a generic USB WiFi. After attempting to install this linksys card and uninstalling it, I can't go back to my USB wifi to access the internet. The USB can access my home network. To get back to the internet using the USB I have to do a system restore to a time before I installed the Linksys card.

I have tried many variations of the installation. At one point the Linksys card could access my home network but not the internet. I believe that happened when I didn't reboot before trying the card. I have not been able to reproduce that situation.

I have done some manual installations of the hardware and may have discovered part of the problem. The CD that came with the linksys card doesn't seem to have a driver for WindowsME or for the version 4 of the card. Neither does the latest download from the Linksys site. I say this because when I do the manual hardware install it can find only two directories on the CD that have drivers. One is WINNT40 and the other is WINXP. In the WINXP directory ME finds four drivers. None are for the V4. card.

If I try to load any drivers from them, ME says it can't find them. It also thinks it can find a driver in the root directory of the CD but if I try to load it I get the message that "an error has occurred in Rundll32".

So, I guess my question is, does anybody have an older CD for a WPC11 V4.0. One that has an ME driver? If so, can I have a copy of the driver to try?

Also, if any body has any other suggestions, please chime in.

Unfortunately from searching around on that link, the only WPC11 Version 4 driver that I could find was the one I already had. It is the one that, when doing a manual driver install, shows drivers for four previous versions of the card but not version 4.0.

I copied the release notes below. I wonder if anyone has the Released Driver Version
v5.131.414.2003 (Windows 98SE, ME, 2k and XP).

Maybe that will have a version 4 driver.
