I have an assignment for a class to find out about scripted and unattended installations of Linux and Windows 2003 server. I'd appreciate it if anyone familiar with these items would share their opinions or experience with me.

    • What do you think about using scripts or other thing like .bat files to install? Hard or easy?
    • When using scripts, do you think it's easier to install Windows Server 2003 or Linux?

I'm not looking for someone to do my homework (as I've seen others do here). I'm just looking for a few opinions to help me learn about it and find some Web resources to examine in more depth.

    THANKS!

If you were to google win 2k3 unattended install, I'm sure you would get TONS of info on the subject. I can't comment on linux, but I know for windows, there are slick GUIs and tutorials that will help you generate the .INF file. IIRC, there's even this sort of function built into windows. I would say its fairly easy.

OTOH, if it can be done in windows, chances are it can be done better in Linux.

Most Linux Installs have a Network install capability, but unless you know what you are doing, it is hard for someone new. Do a Internet Search for "Unattended Linux Installs", or go to Redhat.com or Linuxiso.org and the info would be over there.
