Linux Buffs

Hey Geeks,

If your a Linux Buff. I am wondering if you know of a boot loader that can handle multiple flavors of Linux (flavors=distributions).

I have a system with one or two HD's, but I plan to load Fedora, Mandrake and maybe one or two others. I wanted a boot loader that will play nicely with all the distributions and enable to boot to which OS I choose.

Ideas appreciated.

 

Are you going to include Windows into the mix on this box or do you just want to play with multiple versions of *nix, (in my house are many mansions).

 

Just Linux for this box. I have other boxes for Windows.

 

OK then, time to go partition crazy, depending on the size of the drive, I reckon 3 - 4 distros is not beyond possibility. Linux bootloaders tend to work and when they don't they tend to be easier to fix.

 

Alright so I don't need anything extra other than say, GRUB?

I really don't want to muddy the waters unnecessarily here, but I do want to put a "plug" in for my favorite boot manager, GAG.

I say this, because it is what I use, and is so totally user friendly, once you get it on the floppy. You'll see. No scripts to edit, nothing like that.. totally GUI interface.

Oh, and remember, of course, that during installation of the Linux OS's, install lilo, (or Grub, as the case may be) to the beginning of the root partition, not to the MBR, then GAG will be installed to the MBR, and you are cooking with gas.
