Hi. What you need is virtualisation software, such as VMWare Workstation.

You can get basic VMWare software for free. This will cater your needs.

However: It will take up ram and CPU. So make sure you have a nice system if your going to run this.

EDIT: Google for Microsoft Virtual PC. This is also free.

    geesh...teenagers these days!

Im sure if you must have linux, that a dual boot setup would be far more 'system resource friendly', than running virtualization software.
Dual boot long?...and not wanting two OS's, why?

I run a dual boot sequence with no prob's at all...lightning fast with XP Pro 64 bit, and Vista RC2 x86!

My young blokes all want overclocked core 2 duo's that run Linux, but they won't completely let go of windows.....I wonder why?

Anyway my advice is that if you want to test linux, or perhaps use it for part of your studies, then dual boot is your only choice when you also want to continue with windows!
Unless you have that OC core 2 duo ofcourse...

    Regards!

Would a Linux live CD work for you? Just a thought if you do not want to dual boot or don't have the power to run a virtual machine.

Yeah... I was gonna mention Knoppix or something similar.... The entire Linux environment runs exclusively from the CD; no install needed! That might be OK for your situation.........

Ah, VMWare is pretty good! I've got a couple of VMs running right now. It lets me run 2 servers (one is a mail server, one is a web server) under Windows. Both are running debian.

If you get VMWare Player, you can grab VMXWizard and use that to create your own VMs very easily.
