the easiest linux distro to learn is mandrake linux, but imo, it's the weakest linux distro, although it will do what you want to do with it. a good all around distro is fedora. it's mroe advanced than mandrake (on the surface), and i find it really nice, although the configuration files are a bit mis-placed. Redhat (the guys who started the fedora project) is the defacto standard, and imo, not a good distro to use as a beginner's course. then we have other distros such as suse linux and slackware. they are both good in their own respect. here are sites for you to look at:

    http://fedora.redhat.com/
    http://www.redhat.com/
    http://www.suse.com/us/index.html

Strogg is right. I am a newbie to Linux and I tried both Fedora and Mandrake. I can tell Fedora is a little over my head, but Mandrake to me could very well replace Windows for the average user. AVERAGE user!

Good luck. Mandrake has good documentation.
