I am doing the LFS, (Linux from Scratch), and I need to download the patches. lwp-download doesnt seem to work so I'm just gonna to do all the small ones by floppy drive. I want to take the .gz from the floppy and put them in the /lfs/sources folder, how do I do this?

Some help that was, obviously I realize how difficult this is going to be, this is how I like to learn though. I've now managed to make an ftp server, and put all the stuff on there and I'm able to access it with the Linux. I simply use ftp and log on, but I'm using:

get blablabla.tar.gz2 or whatever, how do I place it in my

    lfs/sources folder?

Read. Linux requires reading. The LFS online books shbould have the info you need, which is precisely why I posted that URL.

I am reading the book, I'm not stupid, I'd rather not post here asking for help. It says in the book to obtain there list of packages, I have obtained them on my XP computer, and set up an ftp server for them.

I can connect to server with the linux by

    ftp ***.***.*.*** 21 and now I type

get blablabla If i just type that it places the package in the home directory, I simply want to place it in my lfs/sources folder. Can you help more or not?

Maybe if you are more specific.

What ftp server are you using? Are you specifically having trouble using ftp via commandline?

I'm not having a problem with my FTP server. I can connect to it. The command is get download whatever it is to the computer

get download.tar.gz2 would download it to my main directory on the harddrive. What I want to do is download it to my lfs/sources directory.

Then, yes, you are having trouble using the ftp.

You are connecting to LFS, from what OS? Is it Debian? Is that why you are having trouble?

    try

    man ftp

from the command console. It should bring up the manual pages for the client.
