I am about to try Linux, A realative is mailing me one right now. I do not have a legal version of windows xp, and do not wish to buy one, I used to have win xp pro corp ver. a friend gave to me and found since it was burned, it was illegal and gues I never thought about it being illegal and I heard I coul get in big trouble for having it, and i later found out he cracked it so it would be the corp ver and you would not need to activate, so my uncle is going to download some linux versions on to a cd for me, and I was wondering do you need to download sound and device drivers for it, if so, where would be a great place to get linux drivers for a sound card, modem, and wireless card?

OH YEAH, and a lexmark 515 series driver

Fedora is a good enterprise level package, very scalable.

Knoppix is another good distro, especially since it can be run from CD.

Damn Small Linux is 'minimalist' distro, meaning the bare minimum needed to run Linux with a GUI, alos can be ran from CD.

The last one, don't know what distro you are refering to.

[EDIT] What is the best Linux, is a matter of personal preference; and has been the subject of many flame wars. [/EDIT]

I've tried several different Distro's, and have Fedora Core installed on one desktop and keep a Knoppix 'Live CD' handy for the times windows crashes, and I need to get into a hard drive and take a look. Linux has a long way to go before it becomes a serious challenge to MS in the home market, enterprise level solutions it is already challenging MS and has been for a few years now.

Its not a fight per say... its a heated disscusion on which one of the many Linux variations is best! everyone has their favorite as their are many to choose from, I personally like Red Hat or Gentoo (Knoppix is a great taster to the world of Linux)

similar to the warm disscusions on which AntiVirus/CPU is best ;)
