Well, there is net view (windows XP command). Just type "net view" at the command prompt. That will show all the servernames for the computers on your lan. It can also show networks printers netbios names depending on the printer, printers quite often will not show on that list.

I thank you for your prompt response. But let me elaborate a bit more on my previous question of what I was trying to do. I have IP address of a client PC or printer on my corporate lan. I wanted to know if there was command in dos to query the hostname of the computer or printer by IP addresss. I had remembered there was a command, but unsure. I wanted to see if you guys knew it.

    Kungfumaster,
I believe the command your looking for is - arp -<parameter>. Use the arp (address resolution protocol) to find options to use when ur looking for IP of hosts on ur Lan that are connected. It simply displays the IP-to-physical address translation tables that are used by ARP. Using the command alone will give you optional parameters to use for what you need. then you can use the NBTSTAT -A <ipaddress> and it'll show you what the IP/Hostname of computer that your looking for. Hope that helps.

Some UNIX versions out there provide a command called 'host' to do this but I don't know about windows.
I did a very quick google on 'reverse DNS lookups' but couldn't find reference to a built in Windows command that did it.
