Do you have latest version of Live Messenger http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Live_Messenger_d4451.html

Also if you use a router, then some dont play nice with Vista, they may not have compatible firmwares to play nice with Vista's Auto-Tune functionality, but to get around this try this fix that floated around when vista was still in beta and caused that error with Messenger.....

If you do use a router, what one is it and do all the PCs use the same one, including the PC that Messenger works and the one that doesnt or are these PCs on differening networks/routers?

Are both using same security software as in Antivirus? if no which ones the no-working MSN Messenger using, if Mcafee or any all-in-one Internet Security then turn off its Phishing Filter.

Is the Version of MSN used the latest one as I listed, if not try that updated one, plus what is router make?

The computer with the problem came with mcafee but I have removed all traces of that I can find including refrences in the redgister.using latest msn 8.5.routers netgear but the laptop that works is on the same router so I should'nt think it's that. The one differance is that the laptop came loaded with vista home edition the desktops got vista business edition.Really tempted to try and formatt reload with xp but you know what it's like to be beat by a stupid computer.

    Hi

Yes turn UAC on if its not already, UAC is a major part of security on Vista, yes it can be a pita when it pops up more than what anyone used to XP would like but you become accustomed to it in time.
