LLF an IDE

I took a power hit saturday that knocked out 1 of 3 drives on a system.
The thing has data errors on it, apparently located in a band about 2/3 the way in.
as a last ditch effort, I want to LLF the drive, but the method I used to use went away: I had an old mobo that had a format utility in the BIOS.
Now, googling on LLF programs, and looking here, gets me info that LLFing an IDE drive is: A- isn't necessary, B - isn't supported.
All the info I was able to gather is that the things that advertise themselves as LLF programs actually only do a 'zero fill', and are meant as a virus removal tool. Interesting.
So.. are there any utilities that do a 'real' LLF out there.
I DID search on MG, but I've never quite figured out how to do a search that doesn't turn up zillion irrelevant hits.

Rewrite the sector header, mark the bad blocks, map them.
I assume that IDE isn't smart enough to do sector remapping on the drive, as SCSI does.

 

Your best bet is to head to the drives manufacturers site and use thier utility.

 

Kodo is right. Generally the only tools that can do any kind of true LLF (i.e., rebuild physical tracks and sectors) are from the drive manufacturer. Some manufacturers don't seem to have tools that allow that kind of sector repair. I'd assume that the manufacturers operate under the philosophy that a HDD with physical damage should no longer be used, and will probably be covered by warranty. I'd agree with that.
