Ok so I like to make things convenient in my life especially when it comes to technology, and there's nothing more satisfying than making Windows work the way I want it to. My issue: my shortcuts don't work :banghead (hear me out)

I've got my desktop set up w/no more than 1 object at all times - I like the cleaner look. On the contrary, it's actually got several objects that are just hidden. Now that you've got a visual you might be wandering how I navigate. It's simple, I just hotkey it.

The problem is that they work at will and I can't easily open up mozilla by pressing ctrl+alt+m anymore. I end up either having to go into the properties to retype the shortcut key again or deleting it and going through the process of creating a new .lnk/customizing it altogether. And even at that some times it still doesn't work. I don't know what's going on w/my system but it makes this part of my life very inconvenient.

But to make matters worse (I think) is the fact that since it's become sporadic I haven't been able to single any one thing out for this pc demon to reveal itself. Now "I think" it may be worse than it seems b/c this unusual behavior leads me to believe there is an ominous underlying issue. However, the possibility of my system catching a cold is pretty slim but I still wouldn't put it past less harmful malware, you know?

At any rate, any advice fellas? Thanks,

    -Jay

I can't help with your actual problem. I was going to suggest perhaps it had to do with the shortcuts being hidden but the sporadic nature rather rules that out.

Have you tried using a launcher such as Launchy or Executor? They work much like Hotkeys. Executor uses Windows key +Z +hotkey +enter. An extra step with the <enter> key but might be worth a look if you like to use a lot of keyboard shortcuts.

I thought it might have something to do them being hidden when I first started hotkeying everything but after a little bit of trial and error I discovered that wasn't the case. I ultimately would like to have no icons (shown or hidden) on my desktop and have nothing but hotkeys for everything but I haven't figured that one out yet.

I haven't tried Launchy or Executor but I'll look into them. My goal was to stay away from additional apps and just make the gui more user-friendly (well, for me at least) but I'll give them a shot anyhow.

I'm gonna keep messing w/different setups and do more T&E till I figure it out b/c it was working for me at one point. I'll post results for all to enjoy if they're willing to go through the trouble.
