    Hi.

I originally posted Windows ME Booting Slow (Stuck on ME Screen)

I performed a logged boot (/bootlog.txt) and the following drivers failed to load:

    [0007182E] LoadFailed = C:\WINDOWS\system\VMM32\vshare.VXD
[00071870] Dynamic load failed : [00071870] File not found

Could this be the reason why ME stalls on the Windows ME screen?
How can I either fix this or remove these so that they do not try to load?

It can be normal to see several entries where a driver has failed to load.

It may be related to your problem but it may also have nothing to do with it.

Does it actually reach desktop or not?

Also some more background on the incident.

    Hi,

    Thanks for responding!

I posted all the background of this problem in the post Windows ME Booting Slow (Stuck on ME Screen).

The problem is that in normal boot, the system waits for about 3 mins. at the Windows ME screen before it boots to desktop. In safe mode it boot right away. When I perform a step by step boot, the problem only occurs when I load all windows drivers.

I don't believe this to be normal. What do you think? Win ME on P4 processor, 128 M RAM.

I'm not saying the hanging before desktop is normal, but finding a "failed to load" device driver in your Bootlog is. It may or may not be related to the slow startup, but on it's own is no reason for concern.

If it's booting okay in Safe Mode then it's obviously something that is set to load with Windows.

Check Device Manager for any unused Network cards, a common reason for slow startup.

Go to Start, Run and type in msconfig then O.K.

Check what is in the Startup tab. The less you have checked the better, however some are vital for Windows so only uncheck those you are certain of.

You can also try a diagnostic and selective startup and some of the suggestions listed HERE.

    Thanks for responding,

The link to the Microsoft site page suggested that I should disable devices in the device manager and enable them one at a time to determine what could be causing the problem.

I disabled the devices, and the problem seemed to go away. But now, I can't enable the Floppy disk or Hard disk controllers. They all have the yellow exclamation point. When I attempt to update the drivers, Windows says that I'm already using the best driver for the device. I tried disconnecting the drive from the motherboard and restarting, and I still can't get the yellow exclamation points to go away.

If I start in safe mode, windows seems to see the drives, but the CD drive is not visible in Windows explorer.

    Please help. Any ideas?

It's been a while since I've used Windows 9x, but VXD is a virtual device driver.

VMM32 is the folder that contains virtual device driver files needed for system start up in Windows 9x.

Did you install any DOS based games, programs, drivers, or change any settings before this occurred?

Do you have System Restore to get you out of this mess?

    Try updating your motherboard drivers.
