Loading an OS with an external drive

I am attending a Vista load-a-thon at one of the Microsoft offices soon and built a system for the occasion. I don't have any internal DVD drives to go into this system and money is a bit tight. My BIOS says it can boot the system from a USB cd drive but I don't know if it would work for a USB DVD drive, I barrowed one from a friend and now I'm wondering if it will work.

Does anybody here know for sure if a DVD drive would be properly recognized in order to boot from the Vista DVD and get the OS loaded?

It should recognize it as the same as a CD drive.

I thought that it should but wanted to make sure. Thanks for the confirmation.

No problem, I've been able to do it before from an external DVD drive.
