I am trying to laod my audio drivers for win 98..They do not have an install file, it was explained to me to go to control panel, devise manager, select the soundcard with yellow ? and choose update driver....I do that and cannot get the wizard to find the drivers...Can anyone help me?

If you know where the drivers, you can lead the Wizard to them.
Right click either multimedia device in Device Manager. Choose Update driver,
Choose "No, not this time" on the first window of the Hardware Wizard, click Next.
Choose "Install from a list or specific location", click Next.
Choose "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", click Next.
Click "Have disc".
Then browse to the proper driver. Either on a disc or in a download.

I went to control panel, system, devise manager
in devise manager I have sound video and game controlers
when I expand it has Aztech Sound Galaxy Washington 16
and Gameport joystick
neither have the yellow ?
the actual soundcard is an Packard Bell crystal audio devise

Should I be seeing something along those lines in here?
I was at a friends house today with the card and he went online and found the driver for this card............Burned it on cd........When I choose update driver wizard begins I have 2 options 1 select a better driver than the one your devise is using now
2 display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select
the driver you want

when I choose 1 I have floppy checked, cdrom checked and in specified location I put in d:(with the cd in) and it says it cannot find a driver

Yes, you should be seeing more than that.
Let's go those route. What is your PC manufacturer and what model do you have?

A make and model # would help if your PC is not a home built.
Or even better:
Use Everest to get a report of your system’s hardware, OS, and drivers. Upload the report as an attachment
Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

Also if you could upload a screenshot of your audio driver folder (epanded so I can see the files)

packard bell #030056

crystal cs4231-kl
ctaese9442

The way the driver was found was by using the first crystal #

Should I still run the link you gave me and run that?

Yes, the Everest link. That should give me all the info I need. I'll start looking around with the info you've given me now.
I took a look in the .zip file and there IS no setup.exe file. I think I know which .sys file to link with but if you have no audio showing in Device Manager, that might not be a good idea.

Trying to download everest but it will only scan my computer I am on, I can't figure out how to download it.

My fault, you did say the other wasn't on line.
Transfer the setup file (the one you downloaded) to the other PC by CD, run the setup and report on the other, then transfer the saved text report back to the online PC and upload it.

PS. I think I know why that driver isn't working. The read me says it is for OS/2, not Win 98. I found the same driver and the description does say Win 98 at the download site, but the readme in that also says OS/2

I ran it and have the report, but cannot get it to cd......If it helps the multimedia : audio adaptor is MPU-401-compatible...do you need any other info?

Once you have the text file, you should just be able to drop and drag it onto the CD as you did with the setup file for Everest.
What I really need is any of the motherboard info that can identify it better than this: psxbl rev.d1. I can pull nothing up with that.

There's 2 sections in the report, one in summary, which is useless alot of the time.
Motherboard:
CPU Type
Motherboard Name
Motherboard Chipset

And another further down listed as motherboard. This is where the best info will be,
--------[ Motherboard ]-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Motherboard Properties:
Motherboard ID
Motherboard Name
If you can get info from both those spots, it would help alot
I am trying to find the drivers from Packard Bell, but haven't enough info.

I did find chipset drivers for your motherboard. (They help in identifying your other components)
PDE1102.ZIP
I also found a manual for it.
P2XBLD.PDF

And I may have found your audio driver.
The readme says all the wrong things:
It is for Win 95. It is for Cs4232.
But I saw a post saying this driver will work on the CS-4231.
AND it does have a setup.exe file.
It's worth a shot, because that actual driver for Win 98, does not seem to be available anywhere.

From what I could find, your motherboard did not come with sound. The card you are trying to get a driver for is an add-on, I believe. You can always get a new card that is compatible with your OS and board.
Give this a try and let me know how it went.

I had to break the driver package in two. Extract both these , then combine them into one folder.
Good luck! :)

You may need to tell Windows ot run that file in Win 95 compatibility mode.
