Installed a new inst of XP-Pro on a new and certified good drive. Install went flawlessly. No other drives connected to the computer. SATA drive connected to #1 slot on computer.Computer boots fine but gives me the drive as (I:). Installing software is problematic as some don't want to install. Looking for (C:) drive. Any help?

As long as you are sure that this is your hard drive the following steps will allow you to change it:

Go to Start--> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools-->Computer Management--> Storage (in the left pane) --> Disk Management.

In the right pane highlight the drive you want to change then click Actions(menu bar) --> All tasks --> Change Drive letter and Paths... -->click change and enter your desired letter.

If you cannot do it through this method please see the link below.

You cannot change the system drive letter in XP.

You would need to format, clean install. To insure it gets the correct letter, make certain no other hard disks, media card readers, zip drives, or thumb drives are hooked up. Only the data cable of those devices need be disconnected.

While the article looks interesting, I wouldn't try it.

Being the nice guy I am, I used one of my machines to try it out. It became unbootable.

Scratch that article off as a very bad idea.
