    Hey guys!

I recently shared my wireless internet connection with a neighbor to cut the price. However I don't feel entirely confident doing so. I would like to know if there is any software available on the net that could help me control bandwidth and such. I would like to make sure she doesn't use P2P. If there are other ways of checking such things with command promt, I do have a fairly good understanding of computers and programming.

    Thanks for your time!

I've never used software to control bandwidth, so I'm not familiar software that's available for that purpose. I'll just mention one I found via a Google search on bandwidth control software: http://bandwidthcontroller.com/

Is a wireless router part of your Internet connection? If so, have you enabled any wireless security features in your router?

Any control like this has to be installed on his computer.

If he knows computers he can easily go around it.

If you do not trust a person do not do business with him.

Speaking about trust, most ISPs trust their clients Not to do such sharing, so there is double trust issue.

Also if your neighbor is paying for part of the connection, they have every right to do what ever they wish as there paying for part of it. Now it your just sharing to be nice, then yes you should have full control.

What, specifically, is the issue with P2P? Is it just bandwidth use? Do you have a limit on bandwidth from your ISP?

Do you have wireless security enabled on your router so that unauthorized users cannot use your Internet connection? I just started using a wireless connection in my residence about 4 months ago, with my wireless router. At that time, I had not enabled a security feature in my router for wireless connections. I was quite surprised when I accessed my router admin panel and discovered that I could see several other networks, i.e. from neighbors, on my system. I also discovered that someone else was using my connection. I enabled security and stopped the unauthorized connection.

Do you have a unique password for your router? If not, logon and create one. Otherwise, your neighbor could logon to your router admin panel.

    Thanks for all your replies!

    @ usafveteran:
I do not want the person to use P2P because she will most probably download pirate music/games/movies, and that's against the law. If there is any problem then I will be help responsible because the conection is under my name.

    @ Colemanguy:
I am making her pay 1/3 of my connection price. But I am only interested in restricting her use of P2P programs to ensure there is no piracy, and as we all know P2P programs are what use the most bandwith. That's why if a solution exists I would prefer monitoring rather than limitating bandwith.

    @ cat5e:
I don't especially trust her, that's why I wanted to keep an eye. However I did not know that ISPs did not allow connection sharing, I live in France, does this rule apply here aswell? Thanks for the info nonetheless.

    @ usafveteran:
Thanks for your link, althoug I was looking for a free program. My connection is WAP encrypted, so there is no problem of it being accessed by anyone that does not have acces.

What ever you do, make sure she knows your blocking stuff, as thats shitty to sneak by. Even if your paying more, what if she goes and hires someone to fix her p2p problem when its your blocking or what not. Just make sure shes aware of what ever you do.
