I work for a chain store that does computer work and we are given a diagnostic pc for work use. The image we are given is extremely locked down and can only run items with a certain file name (ntt.exe, offlineupdater.exe, etc) also we are unable to save any data to anywhere but the documents folder.

At my last store me and another tech where able to open the hidden admin account on this image through a combination of dial-a-fix to remove restrictivie policies, as well as manually editing the registry to change the default login from ______user to ______admin, and removing its password.

it has been 6 months since we did this at my old store and now i want to try this again at my new store. I am able to run any exe i need that isnt an install by renaming,

Can anyone help me relocate the registry keys needed to change the default login from user to admin, and remove the password for the admin account?, i can most likely use an active password changer for the password aspect, but the default login is the big one here.

    help is much appreciated.

Hopefully, an admin will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe policy here at MGs is to not assist in circumventing security.

Not to mention your store's policy? Does that not concern you?

the image is locked down to the point of almost being unusable, the loss prevention policies contradict themselves because the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing

loss prevention doesnt talk to the people that make the images for these machines, so the corporate policy itself is contradicting. It is not an attempt to bypass security but more a way of unlocking my computer so i am able to perform my job to its fullest. Its a situation where they ask me to build a house and hand me a nerf hammer.....

In this case I would recommend taking this to your manager to see if they can resolve the situation.

Although I am not totally sure, I believe Mada_Milty to be correct about forum policy, and my ethical opinion prevents me from helping you further.

I understand what you are saying, but also let me tell you that an admin on this site wanted to buy a champions online beta account from me. Ethical much? was a thread posted here 6-9 months ago. Ethics is something that can be different to different people. The fact is i am very close to unlocking this image again and just need the associated registry key for the default login. Not to be used unethically but in an attempt to perform my job faster and more efficiently.
