I have a picture file that is locked and can't remember how to unlock it.

    Locked as in read only?

Have you right clicked on it and looked in properties? Make sure the Read Only box isn't checked.

If this isn't what you're talking about, you'll have to be more specific. I have Nikon viewer software that I can lock it so it can't be deleted.

Assuming that you are signed in as an administrator of a Windows 7 system, you can right click on the pic and choose "Take ownership of this file".

Just so others don't need to guess, please post a message that included the make/model of your computer as well as the specific operating system you are running (i.e. Windows XP sp3, Linux Ubuntu, Mac OSX, etc)

Also, please do as LauraR asked - give some more info about the file. What type of file it is, is it located in a "special" folder on your system, what graphics program created, what you are attempting to do to the file (open, edit, delete), what program are you using to act upon the file, etc.
