locked vista - can it be unlocked?

    My Pastor has been using a laptop with Vista installed on it - this lappy used to be used by our former comptroller - who left the lappy when he quit, but failed to give the password for the lock. He is unreachable.
    Pastor inadvertently locked the O.S. and none of us know the password.
    Is there a workaround to reset this password?
