Locking on Windows XP Screen

- I have a hp notebook that is locking up when booting into windows xp home.
I have tried booting in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode command prompt etc. and all the other options.

Has anyone heard of this problem happening, Im thinking its a virus or something like that but since its a notebook i can't do anything to scan it..
If anyone has any ideas about any xp bugs that it could be.

Its locking up on the screen just before it comes up to the log on screen.

Not the loading screen,.

 

Sorry to hear you are having this problem.

It hapenned to me about 3 months ago after installing a program.

I also tried every conceivable way of saving the data, to no avail I had to do a fresh install.

I hope someone here can help you.

 

Im gonna look for a 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" ide converter so i can back up my customers data and then restore his machine..
if i can get a hold of the adapter.
if not then. he's just gonna have to do without all the stuff he didn't back up.
hehe all of it.

try running the repair from booting off the XP cd..

I ended up running the repair, that fixed some problems but didn't really get me anywhere..
Still to the same place.
I ended up installing another copy of xp over the top in a different folder to back up the dudes data then i just fdisk'd & restored..
