I'm working on an XP home system with SP3 and when it first starts up it comes to the classic user name and password login screen and it automatically tries to log me in as user without me typing anything in either field. The "Cannot log you in because the user name or domain name is incorrect" window pops up and when I click Ok, it takes me to the welcome login screen where I can click the user and log in.

Does anyone have any idea of why this is happening? I have already tried turning off the welcome screen in user accounts but that just turns off the welcome screen and the classic windows log in still tries to log in me is automatically. I also opened up control userpasswords2 in "Run" and everything seems fine in there.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd go back to control userpasswords2 and uncheck the box "users must enter a password" click ok when the next box comes up make sure your name is the default user. Click Apply,OK's to get out.

Go right back in at Run and recheck the "users must enter a password" then Applys/OK to get out and Restart to see if that resets things.
