Longhorn 4074 networking!!!???

Hey kind people, need some help or maybe and explanation.

I have longhorn 4074 installed. my comcast HSI went out because of hurricane IVAN. so for a couple days after installing longorn my free netzero dialup was working great. then the cable comes back on. i put in my pcmcia motorola card and prepare get online. (of course installing the drivers and entering me encryption key). well it pops up, tells me im connected to my router my signal strength and all the good stuff. BUT when i open up IE or anything that depends on it such as AOl instant messenger or anything like that, the whole machine comes to a screeching halt before anything comes on the page.-no mouse, no nothing. i got firefox to work and mozilla 1.6. but windows update freezes. the lil 'Actiavate Windows' notifcation baloon freezer it also. somehow this has to be caused by my broadband connection. At first, I thought-'well mayber since longhorn is still very slow, i may have to turn the transmisision speed on my card down." but then it donned on me that the internet doesnt even transmit at 54mbits. lol. so turning it down to 1 mbit wouldnt make a difference. LongHorn is unreleased software, you should ask for technical support in the LongHorn beta forums.
