Does anyone know where I can get an XP restore set for an HP dv6704nr laptop. I looked on the hp website and they only list one for Vista and I need the driver package for XP.

    Thanks

To understand you want to convert you laptop to xp instead of vista. That can be done if that's what you are looking for. Or are you just trying to get a restore cd for the lap top containing xp drivers.

If it is the second one If HP doesn't offer it you will not be able to get one, you restore disk restores the computer to factory specs and if HP made it in vista then it will only go to vista.

If it's the first one you want to convert to xp on that laptop. you will need to run and post an click here to load Everest report , once that is posted someone here should be able to get you the correct drivers for your computer.

An additional note I would make a set of backup disk for your system as it stands right now. I say this because some people who have converted to xp may some day want to go back to vista however once those drivers are gone unless you have a rstore disk or the available drivers you will have to go through this same process. You don't have to do this but better safe than sorry. Lastly I'm not up to speed on this but have you considered dual booting where you have xp and vista on one machine?

I learned about dual booting after the fact. But, yes I would have considered it had I known about it before I installed the XP.

My machine is running even though I don't have sound and trying to find drivers to solve that problem has been exhausting. Also, my threads here have gotten so far and then it seems everything runs out of gas.

I have restore disks from vista but I hate to quit and go back after I am so close to the system I like.

Mtnbuff, Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. I didn't forget about your issue however I'm at a loss as to why the drivers won't work. I was hoping someone else had a suggestion for you. HP has some MOBO manufacturers custom make boards for them and some I've learned are designed just for Vista. I'm not sure if yours is one since I was able to find the drivers for you except for the fact that they don't work. I've included a link to the HP support forum that specifically deals with driver issues namely audio problems. You can ask their people who only deal with HP and see if they can find a viable solution for you. In the mean time if I find a solution I will post it here and if you find one their can you please post it here so others will be able to solve their problem too.

I have tried every approach to getting sound back. In my device manager I have a conexant high definition smart audio 221 and within that my sound mixers are enabled but when I try to use something w/sound it says there are no mixer devices detected and to add them through add hardware.

I don't have sound with my speakers or headphones.

Has anyone had this issue and solved it?
