I have a Acer 1660 running XP Pro that is in need of driver updates.
I have searched everywhere and unless I want to buy a program to find them for me, I seem to be out of luck on getting them.
One is an ATI standard dual channel PCI IDE controller. I found drivers on one site, but have no idea of a model number or exactly what they are asking for.
The other has no driver, it is a SM bus controller, make unknown.
    Any help???

OK, I have the download, and tried to install, but it said the directory path and the installation folder exceeds 88 charactors. Shorten one or both to below the limit.
I have no idea how to do this......
    Any help?

What is the destination folder called? (the place it ends up in)
You could try creating a folder, called IGP, somewhere on your C: drive.
(Best to put it where the setup already wants to. The only difference will be the name of the last folder.)
Then when you are asked where to put the driver, browse to that folder.
    (from within the install program)

    Did the driver work?

Actually it downloaded a program along with the driver that showed up in the taskbar that allowed display settings to be changed.
It rather screwed up my present settings, so I deleted the program in control panel, but the driver was a separate program in programs, so I was able to keep it.
It fixed the SM bus controller, it now shows up as working. The PCI IDE controller did not update, but it was working anyway, even if the driver is outdated, so I'm not concerned.
    Thank you very much.....

    Great.
Sometimes we're limited by the availability of the drivers. I prefer to go to the home sites and not grab ones from other sites.
    Glad it worked.
