Hi,now that Symantic has taken over Sygate and will do away with there firewall. I will need to find a new one, which is the best Free FireWall that works with XP Pro SP2.

IMO, ZoneAlarm. Just a personal preference.

Agree on ZA-free. Stable and not a resource hog. No experience with the others.

zonealarm free is what i use. At first i bought version 3 a while back and it was great and the free one is very good too. As far as sygate free and outpost I admit i never used either cause za was just better at the time and is pretty secure so i figured why mess with anything else. Did try norton but it kind of suked IMO and used resourves up the... u get it.

Why abandon Sygate just because Symantec bought it and put it in File 13? If you have the installation file and install it, it still works fine. :)

i started to do some research cause of ur question. While i don't know if sygate will change in any significant way that would matter to our pc's protection, I checked in Pc mag which had an analysis of the fee antivirsus software avaliable. It is dated 9.??.05 note that too. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1864601,00.asp

The thing that caught my eye was that the open source one and sygate could be turned off ( I don't know if this was fixed since then so u might want to check on that).

Symantec gave Sygate Personal Firewall the 'Deep 6'. It will no longer be developed, updated, supported, or available from them. What happens when a flaw is found in the firewall, who's going to fix it? No one. That by itself is reason enough to start looking for a replacement.

Zonealarm free version is really good.
I actually don't use the pro version because managing it is a little bit difficult,Go for Zonealarm.

I will mention this only once, please do not bump old threads from a year ago, when the answer is no different that that already given.

Bumping threads from years ago is seen as trying to increase your postcount, fruther ones will be deleted, either answer a current topic or start a new one if you have a question.
