I'm not really into gaming, but have an itch to try a Flight Simulator.
The question is, which one to get that is fairly easy to learn and do I need any additional hardware, such as controllers?

Hopefully, my system should be more than adequate, with an Athlon X2 6000 processor and 2gb ram.

    Any suggestions?

Microsoft fsx is a great flight sim, comes with all the tutorials you'll need to take you from flying micro lites, right up to commercial jets. Take a look at some of the videos on youtube.
    Hope this helps

Thanks Stan24. I decided to go with 2004 after reading a few reviews. I may not have all the hardware to effectively run X.
I'm relying on my mobo's hardware to run the game, as I don't have any additional hardware installed.

I'm not really into gaming at all, I just always wanted to try a simulator and decided to cheap out on the software, in case I don't take to it.

    Here’s what I’m running: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1289608#post1289608

Do you think I need any additional hardware? TIA!

If you plan on doing any gaming, even older flight sims, a separate video card is a basic necessity. You can get really good video cards these days for $100 or less. I had an NVidia 9600gt and it was excellent bang-for-the-buck. Check out these deals at Newegg. I bought one when they first came out for $149.00 and I was happy with my purchase. For even less, look at the 9500GT, or the Radeon 3850/3870. Excellent performance-to-price ratio.... look at this deal for a Radeon 3850....

I received my flight sim yesterday and it seems to work just off of the mobo's hardware.

I will probably install the video card that I have and see if there seems to be any improvement.

I've tried it with keyboard controls, since I'm still waiting for the joystick that I ordered to come in.

I'm really a stranger to gaming, since I grew up prior the Pac-man era, but this seems like my kind of fun.

I'm not much into flight sims myself, but a really good one i've seen is called x-plane.
There are also scenery dvds (7 in total) that cover most of the world.
