Ok first i am looking for programs that i can recover lost files, jpeg etc etc etc.And i am also looking for a file duplicator tool, that will go through my computer and find duplicate files.I have tried Pandora and Recuva for file recovery,i get all the files but the ones that i am looking for.I want a program that will bring up all files and that i can see each file.I tried a few duplicator tools, and when i went into a folder that i have pictures in,i could clearly see duplicates but the programs didnt recognize them.can someone tell me where on Majorgeeks.com you find file duplication tools.I found the other tools i need under data recovery.i am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 and 32 bit ,my hard drives are NTSF if that helps with anything.

I would have thought recuva could have found files lost only a week or two ago.
PowerDataRecovery is going to be slower but it may pick up something the others have missed. It will read your whole drive and give you a folder structure view where you can look for your files in their old location and then copy them over to another HD or USB flash drive. (You have to copy them over to something other than the same HD partition.)

I'm not sure if it will help but it is free for the first 1gb of files you want to copy. Since you are only looking for a few photos it may be worth a try.

You could try this first and if not go through the more intensive searches.

For what it is worth PhotoRec is a fine program and may be worth a go. You can get it from the developer's site.

I tried that also Power Data Recovery, yes i know i did because it gives you only 1GB of finding files.thanks anyway/Photorec i dont trust or like, you have to download something else with it.and it gets really complicated.

The problem is if you kept using the computer after deleting the items very possibly were overwritten, which would prevent you from recovering those missing photos. I dont have much experience in data recovery, never had much luck when i tried.

I'm also looking for some software to evaluate duplicates. I used to have a Norton Utilities program that I liked, and would like a similar one.

The Norton program allowed (for example) the left pane to show the files of one folder, and the right pane to show the files in a second folder, and then I could evaluate which folder or files to keep based on characteristics of name, date, size etc and delete and/or copy individual files back and forth.

Does anyone know of such a program?
