looking for a good file share program

ok so som1 at work told me bout this site...said i could get good file sharing prgm from it. im kinda lost. i need somthing that wont be too much for my computer(as in lots of mem or whatever it is) i want somn easy to use no spyware would be great. kazaa sux, ares too. neone have some advice for me...or at least let me know if i can find one on this site?!? thanks a bunch

Have you tried Shareaza? It also handles Bit Torrents.

 

A bit of experience with this one. Recommend using a private fire wall, eg. zone alarm.

WinMX is very good, especially for music more than anything else, although it has painfully long ques.

Kazaa Lite or Kazaa Resurrection or K++ is the same as Kazaa, without any spy or adware.

Shareazza is also good, but most of the hits are from the edonkey network which works on a reward system, so if you are on dial-up or "hit and run", then it's not very useful.

Bit Torrent is by far the best of the P2P programs, with Azureus being my favourite.

Which ever one you decide on (I would recommend all of the above instead of just one), you are downloading and trusting someone else's computer so make sure you have very good security and up to date antivirus programs.

 

I use Limewire, and it works well.

btw, just make sure that no one in here mentions downloading illegal stuff otherwise this thread will be closed by the moderators really quickly.

I tried WinMx, but it kept crashing my system.

I finally found one that's pretty cool, it's built into a web browser called Deepnet Explorer

I don't know all the details about the file sharing aspect, but it seems to work very well and the download speeds are VERY fast.

The internet browsing is also great; It's tabbed and it's got a great "password/login" manager.

heres a tip DONT GET LIMEWIRE!!!!!it has the most viruses, spyware, adware etc. i have ever seen!!!!it may be fast but speed isnt everything.if it were up to me i would get winmx.

 

That would depend on which version.

LimeWire Pro does not have any spy or adware.

As far as viruses, that's not program specific.

As I stated, regardless of which program you use, you are downloading from someone else's machine so the risk is always there.

I like kazaa lite k++, but alot of the versions won't connect, 2.4.1. is the version I use. Bit Torrent was the best but it's pretty much dead now, all the sites have been closed down and alot of the trackers are down. Exeem looks like it could be good though, it's by the Suprnova.org people (which was by far the best bit torrent site) and has some good stuff, but not as many users as Kazaa yet. Its like a mix between bit torrent and Kazaa. Its in Beta Testing at the moment. Try it.

Alot of people also like mIRC, it will take you a while to understand how it works, but you can get pretty much anything on there!
