I was wondering is there a program like Notepad that can do some stuff like:

    - Delete repeated lines in a long list? (Good for proxy links or website links)

Well and anything else. I really just want delete repeated lines. But any other features would be cool.

    Thanks in advance.

For example, if you have 30 000 proxies, it usually takes awhile to go through each one manually ;), hehe. And right now I have a list of 200 sites which I like in notepad, and about 50 of them are repeated =/

So do you know anything that does that specifically?

Nevermind, I checked their site, Editpad has that as well, however you need to pay for it >_<.

Do you know anything free that has it?

Err yeah, the search and remove feature is only in pro =/

Edit: I think I read it wrong, I'm not sure if it does it anymore. I checked their site, and what I seemed to have read is gone ...x.o

Notepad on steroids, love it, used it for years, registered it.

    UltraEdit

I used to search and replace thousands of files in the old 3dfiles html days. You may need ot register it eventually, but I think you will agree its worth it.

    Let me know.

If you can't find a text editor, which is able to remove duplicate lines, then you might want to look for something which can record macros (key-presses). Then record a macro where you take the current line copies it to the clipboard, then replaces all instances of the line with nothing, and then inserts the contents of the clipboard. And then moves to the next line. (Make a loop around this macro or hold down a key where this macro is assigned.) (MultiEdit and UltraEdit are two editors which supports macro's)

Another solution could be to create a batch program using the utilities type and find. The batch file makes a type of the source file and pipes it to find, which then checks if it can find the line in the destination file, and if the line doesn't exist then it is added to the destination file.

Here you are - have a play around with its extra goodies I think it might be the answer you are looking for.

NoteTab Lite www.notetab.com the text viewer to beat all text viewers which stands head and shoulders over the wimpy Notepad. I was impressed enough to pay USD10 to upgrade to the standard version which includes a dictionary.

Fookes Software Does NOT ask me to do this -I just happen to think that Note Tab is the most brilliant text editor out there and it does have some programming abilities built into it.
Let's all know if it does what you want of it after you try it.

    Cheers

Hmm, well I guess I'll stick with one of these programs. I was specifically looking for that feature, but I guess nobody has ever thought of it

Well thanks a lot guys, I've got lots of new text editing goodies to mess with.

I'm confused. I have EditPad 3.2.1 and I use the Find & Replace feature to do things like that off and on. I just replace the line with nothing and click the replace all button.

Perhaps I am not understanding your request.

I'm trying to find an editor to search for duplicate lines and delete it automatically.

OK, I think I got it now. You want it to search for and find *any* duplicate lines and remove them automatically, perhaps leaving just one line only? If so, I'm not aware of such a tool. I'll look for one.

You had asked for search and replace function, we both told you they have them, read the help file for more. Search, replace in files, type in text, type in text to replace in next spot or leave blank.

Put the line in the find line of the find and replace dialog of notepad and leave the replace line blank. Click replace all and it will delete all of those lines.
