My son is looking for some information. Perhaps someone on this forum could help. Here is what he is looking for.
"To anyone tech-savvy out there: I need to buy a turntable that can be hooked directly into a computer for purposes of converting LPs into MP3 files. I don't want a standalone that only puts them onto CDs. Any recommendations?"

Here are reviews and specs of 10 USB turntables that can plug into a computer and convert LPs. I'll let you google the ones you are interested in ;) Look for one with good signal to noise ratio, wide frequency response and good channel separation :-D Accurate speed not so important as this can be fixed in Audacity as can the clicks, crackles and pops ;)

Personally I have a Rega Planar III with Ortofon MC-30 Supreme cartridge into a Yamaha R-S700 amp into a Xonar 24bit audio card. For most people this is overkill but I have over 1000 LPs (some quite rare) in good condition :-D

Thank you both, I have forwarded the info to him. Couldn't ask for any faster response time, thanks again.
