Looking for an ftp folder monitor

Hi all,

I have a couple of scanners set up so that they can scan documents and upload them to specific folders on a website automatically with no other user interference required beyond pressing the scan button.

What I would like is to know when a file has been uploaded as alas the customer doesnt always call to notify me.

Does anyone know of such an application that I can install on my local PC that will check the appropriate folder and let me know the number of files it contains, or if there a change in the folder size? Or even something that will email me when a file has been uploaded. The scanners are quite a ways away from here so something I can install locally to check the ftp folder or on the server to generate an email would be great.
